3D Printing

An Immersive Education Summit is an event that takes place annually in different places of the world. It is an informative conference type event that features many speakers and subjects within Immersion. The topics consist of ways technology is paired with daily living and can help influence many aspects of ones' life. This includes but is not limited to 3D Printing, Holograms, Virtual Reality and Cybernetics. For more information on Immersion 2015 which is held in Paris this year visit

3D Printing is an innovative way that will change technology forever. This is used to make three dimensional object from a computer. For me this is completely baffling. I have been interesting in this since Meredith got a 3D printer on "Grey's Anatomy" and used it for medical purposes. That for me is an example of the beneficial uses that can come from 3D Printing.

3D Printing is a complicated process. It is done by first designing the object you would like to become "real". A computer or scanner copies the object in three dimensions. The program used cuts the file into layer upon layer of two dimensional images. These images are put together to eventually become three dimensional. The layers are no longer at all detectable by the end of the process.

Before researching 3D Printing I was unaware how accessible 3D printers actually are. Not only can 3D printers be used for building prototypes and for companies and large corporations they can also be used at home. They are not too expensive (relatively) and are between $250 and $2,500 dollars which I did not expect. This is useful for inventors trying out new things and is bound to enhance future products.

The cost of 3D Printers varies depending upon its uses. Though it is much less expensive for consumer use it can get up to $200,000 dollars. Office use is in-between the two where as the highest price is for warehouses that use it for mass production. 3D printing is available for many types of usage and because it is so accessible is the reason why it is affecting the future.

3D Printers use the given material such as biodegradable plastic to make the object. The printer uses the material (as if it was ink) and just adds a layer onto another one. Eventually this will create the final project. Because this is an easy way to create a prototype it is common to have a 3D printer in the work place for manufacturers. This way the company does not have to spend money on outside sources for creating a prototype.

This is a video demonstration of a 3D Printer doing its work. It is a time lapse so the timing is not accurate and it would realistically take longer.
